Matthew Machado to Participate in BizWest’s Confluence Colorado Water Summit

As Colorado’s population grows and climate pressures increase, obtaining water supplies is one of the most critical challenges facing our local governments, agribusiness, developers, and others secure sufficient water for the future.  As the playing field shifts, and creative solutions are essential.

These pressing issues will take center stage at the upcoming BizWest Confluence Colorado Water Summit on April 3rd, where Lyons Gaddis water law attorney Matthew Machado will serve as a featured panelist.

Machado will join other industry experts on the panel “Alternatives to the Big Thompson,” which will discuss several significant, innovative water projects along the Northern Front Range that were developed in response to the high cost and declining availability of water from the Colorado-Big Thompson Project (“CBT”).  Securing alternative water supplies to CBT is precisely the kind of complex challenge that Lyons Gaddis assists clients with.

Bringing his extensive experience in representing municipalities, special districts, agricultural producers, ditch companies, developers, and investors, Machado will provide valuable insights into one recent solution: the Double K Project led by the Morgan County Quality Water District. Lyons Gaddis has been instrumental in guiding this innovative project over 15 years, which will provide cost-effective water to existing and new agribusinesses in Morgan County and surrounding areas. By incorporating a combination of conjunctive uses of surface and groundwater resources, and alternative transfer methods to avoid buy and dry of agricultural lands, the Double K Project maximizes the utility of available water supplies while protecting agricultural viability.  Other panelists will discuss Cobb Lake, Terry Bison Ranch, and Firestone’s acquisition of native water highlight, which will provide insights into a wide array of possible tools for new water development projects.
