Overview

Pete Johnson represents several local governments and special districts on the Front Range, as well as other types of water users in a wide range of water rights matters, including water court litigation, water supply planning, development, and reuse projects, and various types of water transactions. He has over fifteen years of experience representing state and local governments, special districts, and other public and private entities throughout Colorado. With a reputation for practical legal advice and deep knowledge of Colorado water law, Pete helps clients complete projects and solve problems with confidence.

Education & Experience

Pete earned his undergraduate degree from Colorado State University and his law degree from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. He was vice president of the Natural Resources & Environmental Law Society and staff editor of the University of Denver Water Law Review.

Before entering private practice, Pete was an assistant attorney general in the Natural Resources Section of the Colorado Attorney General’s Office, where he represented the State and Division Engineers, the Colorado Water Conservation Board, and the Colorado Division of Parks and Wildlife. Before his work as an assistant attorney general, Pete was a judicial law clerk in the Eighth Judicial District of Colorado.

Pete is a member of the Natural Resources and Environmental Law Section and the Water Law Section of the Colorado Bar Association. Pete is also a former director on the Board of Directors of the Colorado Watershed Assembly.

Personal

Pete is passionate about snowboarding, backcountry and cross-country skiing, fishing, whitewater rafting, camping, backpacking, yoga, and gardening. He is a graduate of National Outdoor Leadership School and Outward Bound.
