Overview
Dan Davis is an associate attorney at Lyons Gaddis supporting the firm’s litigation practice. With a background spanning federal public service and private practice, Dan brings a rigorous, research-driven approach to advising clients navigating regulatory compliance, consumer protection issues, and high-stakes disputes. His work is grounded in careful statutory interpretation, detailed factual analysis, and a commitment to fair and defensible outcomes.
Before joining Lyons Gaddis, Dan served in senior attorney roles with the U.S. Department of Education’s Federal Student Aid office, where he adjudicated and supervised borrower defense to repayment matters involving allegations of consumer protection violations by postsecondary institutions. In these roles, Dan evaluated thousands of claims, interpreted and applied federal regulations, and drafted memoranda recommending approval or denial of student loan relief. His work contributed to the administration of large-scale relief efforts totaling hundreds of millions of dollars and required consistent, well-reasoned application of complex regulatory frameworks. Dan also supervised and mentored attorneys, reviewed and improved legal work product, and developed internal adjudication models to promote consistency and efficiency.
Earlier in his career, Dan practiced litigation at Chicago-area law firms, representing clients in complex, high-income family law matters involving financial valuation, negotiated settlements, and contested custody disputes. He also advised individuals and businesses in tax controversy matters, managing document productions and counseling clients on civil and criminal exposure in proceedings involving the Internal Revenue Service and the Department of Justice.
