His diverse professional background – from managing a family-owned business to representing clients in tax controversies and working in federal government – allows him to approach legal issues with a practical, client-centered perspective.

Education & Experience

James earned both his Juris Doctor and Master of Laws (LL.M.) in Taxation from the University of Denver Sturm College of Law. During law school, he gained experience through the University’s Low-Income Tax Clinic, where he represented taxpayers in IRS collection and audit matters, and through the Wills Lab, assisting clients with estate planning documents. He also volunteered with the Volunteer Income Tax Assistance (VITA) program preparing tax returns for low-income individuals and families.

James also worked as a law clerk with Cantafio & Song, where he researched and drafted motions across a broad range of litigation matters, and interned with the Department of Homeland Security’s Office of the Principal Legal Advisor, researching federal statutory and administrative issues while assisting attorneys with trial preparation.

Personal

James lives in Boulder with his wife and their three sphynx cats. Outside the office, he enjoys following basketball, football, and Formula 1 racing.
