Commentary and Analysis Regarding Colorado Law

A Primer and Update on Open Meetings and Colorado’s Open Records Act

Submitted by Adele L. Reester

Do you have questions about open meetings and public records?  Are you knowledgeable about recent changes in the law?

Join Adele Reester on Wednesday, September 10, 2014 at 8:30 am in Torreys Peak I-II at this year’s SDA Conference in Keystone to learn about or brush up on your knowledge of the nuts and bolts of open meeting requirements and public record requests.

A special district’s board of directors conducts the district’s business in meetings that are open to the public, as well as through executive sessions for specific topics that are permitted to be kept confidential by law.  In order to conduct a proper meeting, full and timely notice must be provided and other requirements under Colorado’s Open Meeting Law must be followed.  This allows the board’s actions to be legal and valid.  Just as the public has a right to attend these open meetings, so too does the public have the right to inspect and copy the district’s public records.

Learn more about these issues and many others on Wednesday, September 10th.
